What is behind QuietOn 3.1 performance?
The updated QuietOn 3.1 earbuds take users on a seamless journey to quietude by creating a smooth, quick transition to active noise canceling mode from the moment they’re removed from the case. While they begin in a hearing mode, in less than 20 seconds you can hear the active noise cancelling (ANC) turning on.
QuietOn 3.1’s ANC technology eliminates ambient sounds by automatically generating opposite waveforms to nullify the low frequencies, resulting in a much quieter and more peaceful environment for sleep.
Some of the most common noises that interrupt sleep are low-frequency sounds from home appliances, traffic or street noise, snoring partners and noisy neighbors and QuietOn 3.1 Sleep Earbuds are designed to decrease the noises from all above.
Eartips material
QuietOn 3.1 eartips are made of memory foam material. This custom designed material is optimized to gently expand to make the airtight seal but with minimal force to maintain the comfort that people need for the overnight use. Even though this material is extremely comfortable it is has optimal acoustical capabilities to work with active noise cancelling.
How Active Noise Cancelling works
Active Noise Control (ANC), Active Noise Cancelling (ANC), and Active Noise Reduction (ANR) are methods where an unwanted sound is reduced by adding another sound specifically made to cancel it out. Our active noise cancelling earbuds use a microphone to sample the sound, and a speaker to create a phase-shifted sound that cancels the original sound.
The performance of QuietOn 3.1 Active Noise Cancelling earbuds compared to that of conventional foam earplugs is visualized in the graph below. No total silence created, but optimal environment for sleeping.
The graph illustrates how well passive and active noise cancelling reduce the noise. It depicts the noise amplitude in the frequency scale, throughout the entire sound spectrum, but especially in the range between 200-800Hz active noise cancelling is particularly effective.
Passive noise cancelling devices such as foam earplugs perform well for frequencies over 1kHz, however they are not working effectively in the range where you would need them most: Low frequency noise waves, which are long and go through the walls and earplugs.
The solution for those is active noise cancelling – The graph demonstrates how well the low frequency noise is reduced with QuietOn 3.1. Yet, ANC does have limitations and no ANC device works well over 2kHz frequencies. It is just the law of physics processing and audio components have delays.

QuietOn 3.1 is designed for the ear anatomy
For a normal sized adult’s outer ear, the shell of the earbud typically fits inside the concha, between the crus of helix and the antitragus. Because of this position and the slimness of the earbud, side sleepers don’t feel the pressure.
Another important feature is how the shape of QuietOn 3.1 Active Noise Cancelling earbuds is designed to reach the ear canal without stretching the tragus.
The width of the ear canal varies from person to person. Given that QuietOn 3.1 comes with four different sizes of foam tips, it is ensured that the device fits best into different sized ear canals, ensuring the best possible help when you can not sleep.
