Why active noise cancelling

Traditional passive earplugs

通常の耳栓は、耳穴をブロックすることで、耳の中に入ってくる音量を低減させます。この方法は、パッシブノイズキャンセルと呼ばれています。このパッシブノイズキャンセルは、高周波の騒音を低減するのには効果的ですが、低周波騒音、特に200Hz以下の騒音を低減しきれません。

したがって、通常の耳栓の問題は、これらの低周波エリアです。 このような耳の奥まで届くような低周波音の例としては、航空機の騒音(70 Hzが騒音レベルピーク時)、工場内の騒音、建屋の壁を越えても聞こえてくる騒音などがあります。飛行機内で通常の耳栓を装着時、人が話してる声のボリュームは小さくなって聞こえてきますが、バックグランド騒音のエンジン音については、聞こえ方が変わっていないことにお気づきと思います。

QuietOn earplugs combine the advantages of in-ear passive earplugs with active noise cancelling, providing optimal noise reduction across the whole audible spectrum, especially most effective at low frequencies such as snoring sounds, ambient noises coming through walls, or airplane cabin noises.

Snoring is mostly comprised of these low-frequency sounds. That’s why QuietOn earplugs can drown out significantly this annoying noise and bring you a good night’s sleep.

Noise masking

There are also a couple of noise-masking devices on the market. They do partly mask some part of the noise, but unless a very loud masking level is used, you still can hear both the masking noise (i.e., rainfall) and the snoring from your partner.

We have analyzed different ear anatomies to find the perfect shape and spent countless hours finding ways to make the technical components even smaller, fitting in a small plastic earplug body without compromising performance. The earplugs can cancel up to 40dB and have a long battery life of 50h (first model) and 20h (second model).

We cooperated with industrial designer, Antti Ylisassi, who has worked as a design lecturer, designer, and design manager across Europe, e.g. in Düsseldorf, Stockholm, and Helsinki. His experience and expertise help perfect the sleep earplugs, bringing the most to sleepers.

Patented earplugs

QuietOn holds a concept patent for active noise cancelling earplugs which fit in ear anatomy. FI26466 (Finland), 10171904 (USA).

QuietOn active noise cancelling earplugs (Original model) are also certified hearing protector device EN352 by 89/686EEC. Notified body PZT GmbH nr 1974.

How quieton earplugs work

The microphone is located outside like on many other active noise cancelling devices. This is called feed forward active noise cancelling. Internal mic system is called Feedback Active Noise Cancelling.  In noise cancelling, the difference is that the outside microphone has a time advantage over internal mic which enables noise cancelling to work at higher frequencies.  With the first and second model, QuietOn is proud to be the first smallest active noise cancelling device.
